Any business or individual will face this question. There are many programming languages that are the building blocks of web sites. These languages include HTML, DHTML, PHP, Flash, Java and others. By far the most prevelant is HTML. Beyond these languages, there are an unlimited variety of website styles in literally thousands of colours and special effects. Which one is right for you?
This is where a web developer comes into the picture. There are many companies and small businesses that offer web development. A quick query on your favorite search engine ( ex. Google, Yahoo, MSN ) will give you literally hundreds if not thousands of candidates.
A word of caution is needed here. If you want a simple site, some will try and unfortunately succeed in persuading you to think you need the most elaborate and expensive site they can offer. They will use the rooted techniques of deception.
They may say the following:
- You need a professional site with the latest in programming languages
- Your website reflects you and should be the best because your the best
- We only develop professional sites, if you want anything less we can't help you
- You get what you pay for
- We dont make cheap, affordable sites only good ones
- Do you want a great site or not.......the choice is yours
- You can go somewhere else but you will be back
Somewhere in the consultation that makes you feel small, illinformed and at times outright stupid, numbers are floated around that are far more than you had in mind. The final tally of a complete website can reach thousands of dollars!!
How do I know this? Friends, this is what I was told when I was website hunting a few years ago!! It was I that felt absoloutly hopless to the point of actually agreeing with the deceptive and totally wrong advice of three seperate webdevelopers.
You should never pay for something that you don't need. Why should anyone? If your in the hunt for simple inexpensive, quality, informative interactive web site, you shold get just that. There is no need to spend more than you have to.
As an example, www.alpha1.ca/photo a five to six page affordable site should not exceed $1000can, and that should include domain name, one years hosting, seo, transfers and launch. The site includes a photo gallery that is not flashy but eye pleasing as well as functional. Also included is a mail amd message system where clients can book weddings and offer feedback regarding pictures in the photogallery.
All the pictures are the owners and it is the owner that maintains the site.
The owner can:
- change and edit the text
- remove or replace images
- change the photo gallery
- add more galleries
Structural and design changes can also be done by the owner if they desire. As you can see, the fee for the website is a one time fee with little or no ongoing support needed. But for this price there should be a number of nominal changes included in the price.
