Threats to your netwok and computers run rampant on the internet today. Unless your machines are properly scanned, cleaned and protected from viral threats, you becom a target. If children between the ages of 8 - 18 use your computers you become an even larger target for nasty infections. The under 18 of our society are not the adolescents of past. Todays young citizens of our technologically driven society are front and centre in the marketing world. Everything from cell phones, iPods, gaming consoles and computers to chat channels, messaging services and wedsites are concieved, designed, produced and marketed solely for the younger generations use and consumption.

Fact: YouTube.com a sharing web site which lets users upload, view, and share video clips, music, documents and the such was recently bought by Google for I.57 Billion Dollars!!!!!

As you can see, there is very big money to be made through advertising on the internet. Lets make one thing clear, we Love Google and in no way are we asking you not to use it. Google is a search engine based company that does not, and really has no need to infect computers. The only companies that do this have something to sell.

How many times have you opened an internet browser and see a flashing, quivering warning stating that 'your computer is infected' or 'you won something wonderfull'? Is it really infected? Did I really win? or are they trying to sell you something?

TiP: Never click on anything that states that your computer is infected or you won something. Unless you want the program installed. Or worse, a little patch that was installed when you clicked on the image starts the download and your not even aware of it!!!

When you get the flu, you have contracted the viral agent from someone or something someone touched that you came in contact with. The virus, once in your system multiplies ( makes copies of itself) so it infects as many cells as possible. It is at this point that you feel the symptoms. Headach, fever, fatigue, achs and pain.

A computer virus acts much the same as a biological virus.

Contamination

Your computer can only be infected by an outside source containing a virus such as the internet, cdrw, dvdrw, floppy, usb drives or another infected computer.

When you start a network, join a network, enter questionable websites, insert any removable media or download anything you run the risk of being infected.

Networks are especially open to infection because the have common shares and are accesed frequently.It is for this reason that a good antivirus program is worth it's weight in gold. Symptoms

Once infected, a computer will almost immediately exhibit signs of infection. If it is a replication only virus, it will make clones of itself untill it fills the entire hard drive. I personally have seen a 100GB hard drive filled in less than 8 hours. At this piont you will be able to do nothing on your machine untill it's repaired.

Other virus corrupt files and registries and cause file or system errors. Some will shut down the machine as soon as it boots to desktop.

Others still, attack certain systems or programs and can be a complete nightmare. While not all the symptoms of virus are the same they do share some common effects.
