The central component that all other components are connected to is the Motherboard. The motherboard is a cicuit board that allows all the other components to interact as a whole. Motherboards vary in size and application but are very important when upgrading or replacing components. Motherboards specifications require parts that are compatible. Without these patrs, systems will not run properly and in some cases, won't run at all.

The CPU is the brain of the modern computer. It performs all of the mathematical processes that are the base blocks of all software. Remember that computers 'live' in the 'binary world'. In fact, some newer powerfull video cards have thier own power connectors and system power requirements. The power supply also helps to vent and cool the computers housing. It is not uncommon for a power supply to be caked with dust from use in a dusty environment.

Computer systems dont alway have all the newest features as they get older. Expansion cards such as 5.1 sound, SVGA video, Gigabit ethernet, serial and more are an excellent way to upgrade your system. A computer can quickly add 4 to 8 more USB ports with a usb card installed. IDE and SATA controller cards allow a system to add up 4 hard drives a card.You wont find expansion card only in older computers either. Manufacturers are picking base motherboards boards and components to obtain a model run. Another higher model may have the exact motherboard and other components as the cheaper one, with the exception of expansion cards. Like any other component, they do malfunction and may cause system instability, but are usually inexpensive to replace.
